Special Assessments Updates
- ASSESSMENT DIST. 06-01 – CERRITOS / DUNNING UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING [Approved] – Construction of underground facilities and removal of poles and wires has been completed in the areas of Cerritos, Dunning, Terrace Way, and Mar Vista Way. Street lights will be installed by the end of December. Underground construction has been completed in the Rim Rock/Upper Rim Rock area. A court decision in September granted utilities the authority to install facilities in the street. Work to be done by the utility companies and private property owners, including removal of poles and wires, will be completed by the end of February 2011. (February 28, 2011)
- ASSESSMENT DIST. 07-02 –MAR VISTA & EAGLROCK [Approved] – The District was approved in February 2009. Construction will begin after right of way issues are resolved. It is expected that construction will begin in August 2011 and will be completed by the end of October. Removal of overhead utility wires and poles will follow construction and will be completed by the end of June 2012. (June 30, 2012)
- ASSESSMENT DIST. - ALLVIEW TER. [Not Approved] – A boundary map and petition for the formation of a new underground utility assessment district were approved by the City Council in August 2008. Utility companies are preparing a design, which is anticipated to be completed by the end of December. A contract for assessment engineering will be awarded in February 2011. A vote for district approval will occur in May 2011. If approved, then the assessment district would be completed by the end of 2012 (December 31, 2012)
- ASSESSMENT DIST. – PEDRO / MONTERY / OCEAN VIEW / ALTA LOMA / BROOKS / CEANOTHUS / HOLLY [Not Approved] – A boundary map and petition for the formation of a new underground utility assessment district were approved by the City Council in June 2008. Utility companies have completed the design. A contract for assessment engineering was awarded in October. A vote to approve the district will occur in March 2011. If approved, the assessment district would be implemented by the end of 2012. (December 31, 2012)
- UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING DIST. 09-02 - SOUTH LAGUNA – The City Council approved the District in March 2009 for undergrounding of utilities along the northerly portion of Virginia Way using CPUC Rule 20A funds. SDG&E, Verizon and Cox Communications have been directed to proceed with design, which will be completed by the end of 2011. Construction would then occur in 2012. All poles and wires would then be removed by the end of 2013. (December 31, 2013)
- UTILITY UNDERGROUNDING ALONG LAGUNA CANYON ROAD – In January 2008 the City Council authorized the use of CPUC Rule 20A funds for design of underground utility lines along Laguna Canyon Road. In October, the City Council directed staff to work with SCE to determine district boundaries in the area of Big Bend, prepare documents to establish a 20A district, and obtain 20A credits from other cities using Street Lighting funds. In November, the City Council will consider establishing the district. If the district is established, then utility companies would prepare designs, which should take approximately
